You've read the story. Now, what are you going to do about it?
First, there are a few things NOT to do. Do NOT challenge the study. Do NOT say anything negative about the people that produced the study. You want to build consensus, not cause division.
Consider starting some programs in the community in which your company operates. A smoking cessation program is pretty easy to organize. You could start a nutition and weight loss program. Your company could provide CPR training. And you could ask for suggestions from the community about how you can help.
Believe it or not, when people know that a business is trying, not lying, they are incredibly supportive. We want to win support.
If you sincerely want to be a better member of the community, your effort will be well received. That's ethical business conduct. But if your goal is to manipulate people for the sake of profits, you'll fail.
With millions of dollars at stake, isn't it worth protecting the people and their communities? You bet. Your business could make a profit and a difference.
If you'd like to improve the image of your business, let's get to work on it.
