I found Andrew Jackson to be a facinating character. This guy is amazing when it comes to personal character. We'd do well with him in the White House today.
The book is well-written and a pleasure to read. It's not a "page turner" so take your time and savor it. It is worth the effort.

The "other" Jackson worth the time to read a book about.
This book does read a bit like a novel. Easy to follow and very insightful into the man. It gave me a solid understanding of what Lee lost (I won't spoil it) before the battle of Gettysburgh. This book also gives a good glimpse into the mind of the Confererate officer. Before you assume the entire civil was fought by sothern racists, read this book.

This is one of the rare fiction books that I highly recommend. In fact, it's a must read.
I recommend it for everyone---even kids over the age of about 14 would love this book. I couldn't put it down once I started reading it. Most people burn through this book in 2 or 3 days. It's just that good. The story is incredible and every page has an interesting thought or two worth pondering.
PLEASE read this book.

If you liked the movie, "The Wizard of Oz" then you must read this book. Rent the movie, then read the book.
This is an amazing twist of thought about what you thought you knew. It's brilliant.

I have read nearly everything this guy (David Sedaris) has written. MOST of the time he is really "laugh out loud" funny but some of his stuff boggs down. This book will have you laughing all the way through.
They recommend reading it in private because you truly will not able to contain yourself.
If you like it, let me know and I can recommend other. If you just want to laugh, here's the book.

Here's a page turner. You won't be able to put it down once you start. Amazon lists this as a "Young Readers" book. I think it's for adults. I think you'll like it.
The story is riveting and poetic. It's a "guy" book to be sure but well worth your time.

If you've never read this because you think you already know the whole story, read it anyway.
This is a terrific book that just might spur you on to read more. I was gripped from page one.

You get two for the price of one. There are two facinating stories told in this book---and both are amazing. An easy read, disturbing at times, always entertaining! Non-fiction. You'll come away learning a lot and having enjoyed every minute.
|
This is another "must read". This book garnered a lot of attention but not nearly as much as it deserves. Get it while it's still in print.
You'll never forget this story once you've read it. Excellent read.

This is an excellent treatise on man's excess faith in technology. Some things never change. Katrina?
I strongly encourage the reading of this book while it's still available. It's a masterpiece. Non-fiction and a real page turner from start to finish.

I was told, "if you read Maus I you WILL read Maus II". True. I burned through Maus I in a weekend and wanted MORE. You may struggle with the format at first but the illustrations are brilliant and the story very well told.

This book has it all. There's history, adventure and ... I can't think of another word. Zoology? Yes, there's even zoology!
This is a chronicle of Teddy Roosevelt's South American exploration after leaving office. Trip nearly killed him. This is one incredible book.

Proust is like an after dinner 90 year old brandy. Smooth.
Proust is not easy to read but very, very enriching. This is volume one of his masterpiece. Just get through this one. It's worth it.

Better than a novel. This is the story that spawned Moby Dick. (No pun intended)
Well written and a thrill to read. I really had a hard time putting this down when I had to do other things. You'll love it!

This is some of the most interesting history writing I've ever read. You can feel the Roosevelt years.
This book gives a lot of insight into both FDR and Eleanor. If Hillary Clinton thinks she's another Eleanor Roosevelt she (Ms. Clinton) should read this book.
