What I Am NotI'm not a team builder. If your team doesn't get along, chances are you have some troublemakers in your group. You know who they are. Fire them. You can only build a business around good people. Sometimes good people go bad because the environment is bad. Weak leadership creates a bad environment. BUT, before you start cracking heads, look at "work product". People might grumble when under duress but if the work is getting done and quality is not suffering, I don't think too much should be made of 'complaining'. Next, give people a voice. No, don't open meetings up to "bitch" sessions but encourage dialogue. If your people feel like they have input and are heard, morale will improve. Remember, however, things won't improve much if nothing is ever done about issues raised. Listen and act. No hugging, no falling backwards with your eyes closed. Do you really think working with Legos together will solve a group morale problem? It won't. Good people, a good marketing plan and some luck will build your business. I do not give pep rallies. "Rah rah" sessions never produce lasting results. If you want a cheerleader, hire a cheerleader. If you want to increase sales, start a marketing plan. If you want business growth, we should talk. If you want to just run ads, call an ad agency. I'm not a "yes" man. If I think you are wrong, I'll tell you. There is no value in a business advisor who simply agrees with you on everything. Still, it's your business. We'll work within your comfort zone. |
