The trick these days is to just stay in business until the economy recovers. This requires a balance between prudent cost control while continuing with business development.

The prospect who cannot buy now, will increase your market share when they growth. I see 2013 as a year of recovery. Hang on for 9-12 months and you'll be fine.

But don't just tread water. Be active.

Let people know what you do.

I read an interesting article about developing Vs. managing people this morning. It tied to an interesting conversation I had with a new manager yesterday who asked me, "Is teaching them part of MY job? Shouldn't they know how to do their job if they were placed in that job?"

My answer?

So, you think you are executive material? Let's see.

The best CEOs and managers I know never interrupt meetings with phone calls. I know of no good manager who will bring a cell phone into a meeting.

Do you constantly interrupt the person you're talking with by answering your phone? Bad.
